The College of Basic Education at the University of Zakho, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Diyar Abdulkareem Saeed, President of the University of Zakho, successfully organized the International Workshop on Autism Spectrum Disorder from August 2 to August 5, 2026. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the University of Granada, Spain, and the Autism Association in Zakho.

This international event aimed to support families and trainers of individuals with autism in Zakho, offering valuable insights into current programs and effective strategies for supporting autistic children. The workshop featured engaging discussions and practical sessions led by experts from both the University of Zakho and the University of Granada.

Main Focus Areas of the Workshop Included:

1. Current programs and strategies for working with autistic children

2. Behavior modification techniques

3. Treatment of speech disorders among autistic children

4. Teaching academic skills and preparing autistic children for school

5. Building academic relationships between autism centers, trainers, and families

6. Managing autism during adolescence

7. Addressing special cases of autism

8. The role of medication in autism treatment

9. The responsibilities of schools and universities in supporting students with autism and ensuring their rights and access to services

In addition, the workshop highlighted the University of Granada's longstanding expertise since 1991 in providing services for students with special needs. Their approach encompasses psychological support, assessments, accommodations, inclusive classroom strategies, psychosocial programs, mobility opportunities, and designing environments that promote inclusion for students with diverse needs.
